Interesting tidbit! I think it basically stems from the fact that champagne corks don't have scary faces like spiders do!
Those Champagne corks are viscious. My Mother got a good whack to the eye from one.

Well…they both make me scream…for obvious and different reasons of course…
Death by champagne cork, wouldn’t want that on my obituary…!
